Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo

I've always liked the idea of gumbo, but I'm a bit of a spice wimp. This is a mild gumbo with the usual sausage and shrimp goodness. It can easily be adjusted for more heat.

Ingredients

  • 4 strips of bacon
  • 1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup(s) onions, diced
  • 1/3 cup(s) celery, diced
  • 3 large sausage, sliced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp(s) flour
  • 1 32- fluid oz chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup(s) okra, fresh or frozen
  • 1/3 cup(s) green peppers, diced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp(s) dried basil
  • 3 clove(s) garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp(s) dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp(s) paprika
  • 1/4 tsp(s) cayenne pepper
  • Dash white pepper
  • Dash black pepper
  • Dash salt
